What is WiMAX?
WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access), based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, enables true broadband speeds over wireless network at a cost point which would spur mass market adoption. WiMAX is the only wireless standard today that has the ability to deliver true broadband speeds and help make the vision of pervasive connectivity a reality.
There are two main applications of WiMAX today: fixed WiMAX applications are point-to-multipoint enabling broadband access to homes and businesses, whereas mobile WiMAX offers the full mobility of cellular networks at true broadband speeds. Both fixed and mobile applications of WiMAX are engineered to help deliver ubiquitous, high speed broadband services at a low cost.
WiMAX is based on OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) technology which has inherent advantages in throughput, latency, spectral efficiency, and advanced antennae support; ultimately enabling it to provide higher performance than today's wide area wireless technologies. Furthermore, many next generation 4G wireless technologies may evolve towards OFDMA and all IP-based networks as an ideal for delivering cost-effective wireless data services.
WiMAX is a key component of Sling Broadbands broadband wireless strategy to deliver innovative solutions for broadband Internet connectivity anytime, anywhere. There is a substantial unmet need for very high-speed wide area internet access to both small business and enterprise level subscribers. WiMAX is an advanced technology solution, based on an open standard, designed to meet this need, and to do so in a low-cost, flexible way. WiMAX networks are optimized for high-speed data and should help spur innovation in services, content and new mobile devices.
WiMAX represents a global connectivity opportunity in highly developed mobile market segments and developing countries where this technology may help provide affordable broadband services. Sling Broadband envisions a world of pervasive connectivity for all – WiMAX can help deliver on that vision.
Sling broadband SAS70 Compliance
Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No.70 is an auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). A SAS 70 audit validates that a service organization has completed an in-depth audit of their control activities, which include controls over information technology processes. A Type I report describes the service organization’s description of controls at a specific point in time. A Type II report not only includes a description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of those controls over a minimum six month period. Sling Broadband is certified as SAS 70 compliant provider on on-demand solutions and services. SAS 70 is an internationally recognized auditing standard; such certification demonstrates that a service organization has been through rigorous audit of its control over information technology and all related processes.
This acknowledges that Sling Broadband Equipment is in accordance with this standard.
Specifically what it assures you is that changes to our applications and production systems are properly authorized, tested, approved, implemented and documented; that your data is always backed up and safely stored; and that the code of conduct of Sling Broadband in terms of our policies, procedures and our responsibility to our customers can provide you with service you can rely on both now and in the future
Sling Broadband HIPAA Compliance
Sling Broadband provides broadband services to customers in the healthcare industry that are required to be HIPAA-Compliant. While HIPAA Compliance covers a wide spectrum of areas, our world-class data centers and secure broadband services have been a key component to enable our health care customers to pass their HIPAA compliance audits.

Healthcare and pharmaceutical companies face enormous challenges today with regards to information management and distribution. Handling the confidential and protected data of patients and other entities ties them to stringent security practices. In addition, they must rely on technology at ever-increasing levels, whether they are involved in delivering a drug to the marketplace or managing HIPAA compliance within their organization itself. At Sling Broadband, we understand these challenges and recognize the particular issues associated with becoming HIPAA compliant under recent US regulations.
If your business faces these same issues and requires HIPAA compliance, then Sling Broadband can help you through our robust, security-rich solutions designed to add enterprise-wide usability and industry leading integrity. Working within the government mandated defense-in-depth security parameters, Sling Broadband helps you provide the highest level of enterprise security whether you are sending emails, working with patients’ schedules or transmitting secure information.
